Think Spring!!!

Today is the first day of Spring.  What do you love about Spring?

Here are some things that come to mind for me.

  • Daffodils
  • Asparagus
  • Baseball
  • Leaves on the trees
  • Magnolias
  • Pink dogwoods
  • Tender peas
  • The scent of hyacinths
  • The first crocuses
  • The smell of fresh dirt
  • Baby lettuce
  • Birds singing
  • Colors bursting forth in a glorious celebration

And on a deeper emotional level, the feeling of newness.  Hope. Resurrection.

We feel it in the air – that newness of life.  We see it in nature that turns drab brown into a riot of color.  We celebrate the resurrection of the earth and the resurrection of our Savior.

We feel free; unencumbered by heavy coats, boots, hats, and gloves.

We feel the sun on our face, and love the extra light as the days grow longer.

We clean and purge, as if to break out of our hibernation.

There is predictability in spring.  It follows winter without fail.  And yet we don't know when it will come, this feeling of spring.  We can't control the schedule.  We can only wait for winter to give way to spring, and savor it when it comes.

This spring see it as if for the first time.  As if you've never seen the flowers.  Never felt the soft dirt.  Never experienced the resurrection.  Appreciate the treasure – the gift – that is Spring.

Little darling, it's been a long cold lonely winter.
Little darling, it feels like years since it's been here.
Here comes the sun, here comes the sun
And I say it's all right.   –Lennon, Harrison, McCartney

  1. I love the smells, the increased bird sounds, the crocuses and daffodils peaking up thru the ground despite a last minute snowfall. I love getting out in the garden to start working the dirt and seeing what made it thru the winter. Most of all I love the smell of lilies which, to me, represent rebirth, renewal, resurrection. Despite the long winter weather, it still amazes me how resilient the world is and how everything grows anew for another season.
