You know how they say the best laid plans…? Or, “Want to see God laugh? Tell him your plans?” That pretty much sums up today. And I bet that’s never happened to you.
Yeah, right.
I woke up early. I guess I was excited. And that to-do list just won’t quit. You know? The stuff that isn’t on the list because you didn’t think of it at 9:00 last night? You only thought of it at 5:00 this morning. Good night’s sleep before an overnight plane flight? –Not.
Now I’m checking my email for last-minute stuff, like emergencies. Good thing I did, because there’s one from my voice teacher’s assistant saying they have to reschedule my lesson. He’ll be filming that day.
Now granted, they’re giving me a month notice. It’s just that I’m leaving for almost 2 weeks and my reservations were done. And the plane fare’s non-refundable. So, even though I’d checked that task off my list, it’s effectively unchecked. I have to quickly change all the reservations. It’s costing me some money, but not as much as I feared. The new dates have a cheaper airfare, so it soaks up some of the penalty.
And I’m so glad they let me know now so I could actually make the change before I left. Can’t do that easily while on the road.
Mowing the lawn? Not going to happen. Still raining.
Files and papers are organized. Laundry done. Packing done too. Whew! Took some stuff out and decided to just go with it as is.
The long and short? I expected unexpected and got it. I expected to have a list I couldn’t finish, and that happened. I expected to be fully present with whatever happened, and I was. And somehow, improbably, I actually enjoyed today. Just as I have the other days. And now I’m getting excited.
Now we’re heading to my sister’s house and the trip begins in earnest. See you later!
