Rhythm of Life – My One Word
In Episode 033, I talked about starting the year off by selecting one word that will serve as my theme for the year. I had learned of this practice from Jon Gordon’s book called One Word That Will Change Your Life.
The intention is to simplify your life by focusing on just one word the entire year rather than making resolutions that never stick. By living a single word that is meant for you, you’ll find renewed purpose and meaning throughout the year. It’s not meant to replace great goal setting and actions. It does help determine if WHAT you want to do is a good reflection of WHO you want to become.
I’ve given this a lot of thought since the last episode. I had in my mind the type of word I wanted. And finally my 2016 word came to me. But before I committed to it, I put it thru a test.
Did it still resonate a day later? Did it feel lighthearted? Did it reflect my desire to be fully committed? The answer to all was ….YES.
Listen to this podcast to learn what my 2016 one word is, and how I will use it as a compass to guide my year.

Random Riffs – Why is there a Groundhog Day?
Remember the movie Groundhog Day, where Phil Connors goes to Punxsutawney, PA to report on whether or not the groundhog saw his shadow? As the day approaches, it got me thinking about the history of Groundhog Day.
There are various stories around the origin of this tradition, but all agree on the meaning behind the groundhog coming out of his hole. On a sunny day, if the groundhog sees his shadow, that means 6 more weeks of winter, and he goes back in his hole. If he doesn’t see his shadow, winter is almost over and he stays above ground.
Our continued faith in this tradition is illogical, but too fun to stop. Especially in the middle of a long winter.
