What Kind of World Do You Imagine?

Every day I get an email from Simon Sinek, called “Notes to Inspire”.  It’s got a quote from one of his books or speeches, and is meant to inspire his readers to be better leaders.  As good as the quotes are, and some of them are incredibly insightful, what I really love is what’s at the bottom of every email:  “We imagine a world in which the vast majority of people return home each day feeling fulfilled by the work they do.”

Wow.  That’s some world, isn’t it?

Musings on Flying the Day After the Southwest Airlines Engine Explosion

You never think when you sit in your seat and open your Kindle that this could be the last day of your life.  Make each moment count.  And tell your loved ones you love them.  Now.

When disaster comes, having casually heard the safety instructions isn’t enough.  In times of extreme stress, you fall back on what you’ve practiced.  Intentional practice, also known as drills, are what make the difference.  Here’s a book that tells you how to do it.

Many people can’t see beyond the obvious.  Even though the oxygen mask is round, it’s also flexible.  It can change shape.  Practice exploring beyond what you think is possible.  Here’s more about that topic.

Maybe so many people put the oxygen masks over their mouth and chin because they breathe through their mouth, and not through their nose.  Breathing is meant to be done through your nose.  It’s healthier and helps your voice stay lubricated.  Here’s a free 20-minute consultation on breathing and other voice techniques.

What do you think?  Feel free to chime in with a comment.

Episode 089: Break Free – Burn the Boats and Have a Plan B

Maybe you’ve heard people tell you that you have to “burn the boats” to really succeed. That if you believe you can turn back, you will. I’ve always hated that advice, as it was often given to encourage us to “follow your passion”, which seems naïve and risky. Yet, there’s something to this advice. Here’s how to embrace your future and minimize risk at the same time.
